As a brown-skinned African American I wear the darkest shade in the BareMinerals concealer I’ve purchased since ninth grade, named “Deep to Dark.” However, I wouldn’t be able to recommend the concealer to any woman darker than me, because I’m at the absolute end of the product’s color spectrum. In 2020, this kind of shade range (or better yet, lack of shade range) is frustrating, but it’s not surprising in a beauty industry still rampant with racism. R29 Original Series AJ Crimson Beauty is named for its founder, a master celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Estelle and Christina Milian, and whose foundation is worn by the likes of Issa Rae and Viola Davis.
